Trip to Crumlin Prison, Belfast

Join us for an enlightening trip to Belfast, where we will dive into the intriguing history of Northern Ireland's last-standing Victorian era prison: Crumlin Prison.

Date: Wednesday 4th December

Time: 11:00 AM

Cost: €10 per person for the tour (free bus transportation included)

We will all meet outside An Danlann in the morning at 8:15am. The bus will then take us into Belfast. Our day begins with a self-guided tour of Crumlin Prison, beginning at 11am. As you explore its historic halls, you'll uncover the day-to-day lives of the prisoners, where executions were done, and why they closed the prison! After the tour, the bus will take us into Belfast's City Centre. You'll have free time to explore the city, whether that means by shopping or going for food. The bus will then leave Belfast at 4pm to take us back to ATU Letterkenny. Don't miss the opportunity to join us!

Money Laundering Awareness Talk

"The talk will cover the practice of money laundering and the Irish legislation pertinent to this practice. It also covers 'Money Muling' - what is a 'money mule'? How and why money mules are recruited. The role of the money mule in laundering illicit funds, and the implications of being a money mule and to what effect that can have later in life. As part of the presentation, a short video will be shown that gives an account from an ex-fraudster, on how he used to recruit Money Mules and an account, from a convicted Money Mule, on how they personally were recruited and why they regret it now. This event will discuss the current, tragic ongoings in Isreal and Palestine, as well as the history behind these events. Learn what Jenny does and about her experience of visiting an occupied Palestinian territory. Find out what you can do to get involved in Human Rights and of possible career opportunities in this area.

The LYIT Law Society is pleased to inform you about a Criminology and Psychology discussion being held on campus, led by esteemed University of St Mark & St John lecturer John Deane - O'Keeffe. Mr. O'Keeffe previously held a talk on 'Men behaving badly - the psychopaths among us' in 2020, which was very well received by those in attendance. This year Mr. O'Keefe returns to host a talk on 'Bad Men in Good Jobs: Personality Disorders, Psychopathy & Putin'. This talk is entirely open to the public and will be held on the 23rd of March from 6 - 7.15pm in room 1101.
